so that, “‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!'”
This verse is taken as Jesus is saying to His twelve disciples .. you’ve been given the secret of the kingdom of God. Others have not. Then He comments saying..don’t you understand this parable? The parable He has shared is that of the Sower and the Seed.
Based on these stories, I begin to wonder…how much is our own choice? It isn’t .. I choose for my ears to listen..but rather..I choose, and then I work on it.
Satan comes to destroy the plant … but there is a seeking or a desire that must be nurtured. If the enemy comes to destroy your vision or purpose… you need to have a desire to continue. You need to foster that passion so that you keep running, even when you get discouraged or it looks so much greater than your own ability.
In the past, I read these parables from the angle of what I had to do. I had to be able to win. I had to be able to overcome. I had to be strong and be the lamp on the stand…not let anyone hide me under a basket, or a bowl, or a bed.
But no…. now I realize… if I keep my eyes on God, all these things fall away. The seed keeps growing, the plant keeps growing, the lamp keeps shining .. the only question is for how long. For how long will we let the passion burn … how much ‘fight’ do we have within us. Are we going to keep running when it seems like everyone else is taking a break? Or are we going to look around and say, I’m alone … I don’t want to try this anymore. Whatever.
I think… as this is a journey .. each for him or herself, we each have our own duty to ourselves to run this race as hard and as far as we can. There should be no … looking to the side, who is with me…just…am I right with God? Am I aligned? Can I do any better? And then to watch and see His hand move, to create opportunities or even change the way the race looks.
Life is exciting if we’ll just hang on and run with Him!!!
