God Appoints. Even before Birth!

These are the twelve he appointed: .… (names listed through verse 19)
Mark 3:16 (NIV)

Appointed.
Chose.
Designated (and more at this link from Thesaurus.com)

Very definite. No sort of…may this one, maybe not that one. Each of the twelve were set apart. Clearly.

They are listed (in verses 16-19) as:
Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),
James son of Zebedee and his brother
John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),
Andrew,
Philip,
Bartholomew,
Matthew,
Thomas,
James son of Alphaeus,
Thaddaeus,
Simon the Zealot
and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Earlier today, I was thinking of ‘purpose’ and ‘calling’. How a person is appointed by God…even before they are born.

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

In Christ, we have the unique understanding that we were created with a specific purpose. That God knew who each of us was to be, before we were formed in the womb.

Wow.

To think that our lives matter so much to God. May we recognize our own worth, and not waste the plans and time that He has set before us. May we diligently seek Him in all that we do. That we might fulfil the call, most diligently and completely.

Amen!
