These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.
1 Corinthians 10:11 (NIV)

I am going to start with this verse : “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.1 Corinthians 10:31. Then it continues…”Do not cause anyone to stumble…1 Cor 10:32. These verses near the end of the same chapter as the above PerspectiVerse.

Compassion. Wisdom.
How you act impacts those around you. As in a previous blog post, I wrote of Nabal and how his actions and mindless words, brought about consequences including his own death and his wife happily marrying the very man he insulted. Are we truly aware of our actions? Should we not consistently be checking our hearts against God’s living word … and through our relationship with Him, in prayer … including listening to His leading?

Are we truly aware of the consequences our lives have on those around us? The Nabal’s of this world…fools … they think only of themselves. They do not have wisdom.. wisdom … wisdom. Who has wisdom but God? Yes,  we can have wisdom..but often those of us who think we are wise…are the one’s who need to keep learning. My mother used to say … “Once we think we know it all.. that’s when we better be careful.” …That’s when we do things that we might regret. As the Bible says “Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.” (Proverbs 12:15). Another says …”Victory depends on having many advisors” (Proverbs 24:6b NLT)

Let’s be aware of those around us, of their lives. Let us not treat each other as though “my life is the only one that counts”…or “you can learn from me… I know best”. That also means, be discerning for yourself. Some people you need to walk away from. If “Victory depends on having many advisors” (Proverbs 24:6b NLT) .. then be aware of who you are speaking to. If your many ‘advisors’ are not aligned with God’s word… then you might want to let go of a lot of what they are saying… or better yet…replace them with wise and godly people in your life. Look for counsel from those who encourage your faith and walk with God. Proverbs 12 –  a great chapter to learn about wisdom .. and the lack of it.

You have one choice … to be obedient to God, or not. God loves you. There is none as wise and omnipotent as Him. Diligently seek Him.

If we are truly walking in alignment with Christ, we should see the fruit of the Holy Spirit produced in our lives.  … “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” Galations 5:22-23

Look for these fruits from your “friends”, and wise counselors. Are they exhibiting them? If they are lacking, be wary…look elsewhere for guidance…as the Holy Spirit leads you. Be led by the Spirit and be wise. Be careful who you are listening to.

And if you are not expressing these fruits…then spend more time with the Holy Spirit. Ask for God to increase these things in you. The journey is not easy, but definitely worth it!

As the verse after the PerspectiVerse describes… “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!”1 Corinthians 10:12 (NIV)

Thank you, Lord, for Your guidance. Your Word has so much for us to glean from it, and time in Your presence is so wonderful! May we drink deeply of Your love and wisdom! Amen.
