Clean Life! Check Up! #righteousness

Judges 20-21 (NLT)

So this story starts with a man and his concubine. Contextually and historically not so unusual for a man to have a concubine. But anyways. Moving on. His concubine gets abused to death in Gibeah. Then he sends her body to 12 different parts of Gibeah, in all directions. Terrible. Disgraceful. Horrific.

This happens in a time where every Israelite is basically living however they want – “they did what was right in their own eyes”. However, this crazy situation unites the rest of the tribes of Israel, as they declare “None of us will return home! No, not even one of us! 9Instead, this is what we will do to Gibeah; we will draw lots to decide who will attack it. 10One tenth of the mena from each tribe will be chosen to supply the warriors with food, and the rest of us will take revenge on Gibeahb of Benjamin for this shameful thing they have done in Israel.” 11So all the Israelites were completely united, and they gathered together to attack the town.

The other tribes of Israel request the tribe of Benjamin to give up the people of Gibeah, but the Benjaminites decide to defend them and fight the rest of Israel. This means fight to death. Not verbal. Not ‘we hate you’. No. Killing. Death.

This situation of warfare reminds me of when a person has a ‘hole’ in their life, and they aren’t willing to deal with it. Maybe it’s a habit of lying, where one abuses the truth…or just stretches it. We all know someone who exaggerates, which in turn is lying. Little lies are equal with big lies, in God’s eyes. Right? #Standards

These Benjaminites are willing to defend these horrific people, against all the other tribes of Israel. To the death. … Literally. Most of the women of the tribe of Benjamin are killed, to the point where the rest of Israel comes up with ‘solutions’ so as to not let the tribe of Benjamin die out. Man-made solutions are not usually the best way .. always better to go with God’s way.

Here are some ways to check yourself for holes that you might be covering up. All of these areas (as we are Body, Soul, Spirit) often overlap. One issue can affect us in all 3 areas. So go find the roots, and deal with them! Holes are ways for the enemy to come in and attack you.

Ignoring physical pain. Or covering it up with painkillers …or an addiction to food, cigarettes or the like. If your body is not healthy, then chances are, you have some work to do. Your body is a temple, and you have the daily responsibility of looking after it well. Do research, act on the simple principles of eating, exercising and resting in the correct ways and proportions.

Go and seek out what your problems are…and destroy them. Don’t let the ‘Benjaminites’ (cancer…obesity … addiction etc.) come back at you. Go destroy the things that might cause havoc in your life. The little things we leave alone, often come back to get us and are bigger than when we first let them in. :/
Seek guidance from professionals, and get your life on track! 🙂

Everything works better when it is looked after properly. You will feel better, and it will affect you positively in the other areas of your life.

These holes can be easily covered up with excuses, or blame on others. Unforgiveness and Bitterness can wreck havoc in our lives. Go into those places and find them, and face the issues that bother you. Take them to God. Journal. Process. Heal! Often the supressed memories we hold, only affect us anymore. When you deal with the painful areas of your life, you will find freedom. You will find more peace. You will take back territory that the enemy has stolen from you. Go get it! This is warfare!

Go seek out issues the enemy is attacking you in. Maybe there are patterns you notice in your life, and you have fought them emotionally or even physically but they keep coming back. Maybe the issue is on a spiritual level, and needs to be dealt with from that standpoint. Prayer, intercession, speaking to and listening to the Holy Spirit leading. Having a SOZO can very much help!

There are options, but it’s your life. Nobody can make you do these things…truly. But your life will be so much better when you decide you want a full and free life!

Take Over! and don’t let the enemy dwell anywhere near you!

Submit to God…and let’s not be like the Israelites in these chapters where they “did what was right in their own eyes.” (Judges 11:25) Let’s do what is right in God’s eyes. Righteousness.

The Spirits of Prophets

The spirits of are subject to the control of the prophets. 1 Cor 14:32 (NIV)

Or as in NLT:
Remember that people who prophesy are in control of their spirit and can take turns.
This is a lesson in self control. And also a way to ‘test the spirits’ as in 1 John 4:1Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.

A person should always speak out of peace … this is an expression of self control. Self Control is a fruit of the spirit – Gal 5:22-23. If a person is speaking out of a place of anything but peace … check it with God. If you don’t sense peace in a situation or conversation, you might want to leave. Be discerning. Find people who speak and act out of a place of peace, God’s peace. Be led by peace. In Jesus name. 🙂

When you have a difficult situation and do not have peace, or you are emotional because of the state of your child, or a person has been disgraceful and you don’t know what to do .. pray.
Find your peace. Find peace. Find the peace that surpasses understanding (Phil 4:7). Love from God also surpasses knowledge (Eph 3:19). We can also have the love that surpasses knowledge! God’s love …so awesome.

Peace and love…two things we receive from God and can ALWAYS grow in … things that surpass understanding and knowledge! An unlimited source of peace, love, joy.!

If we all spoke and acted out of  peace from God, wouldn’t our world be a better place?
We wouldn’t say things that we shouldn’t say … we wouldn’t meaningfully hurt others. We wouldn’t do things out of selfishness, or unawareness of others .. we would genuinely be looking for God’s outlook on a situation, and be concentrated on His will, and walking in obedience to Him.

I would LOVE a world like that…where everyone has their eyes set on Christ. On being like Christ. Imagine. Phew. I guess I have a new thing that I desire for this world. I guess, that’s a new beginning. Thanks God. Let’s see where this goes. 🙂

My Shield

My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
Psalm 7:10 (NIV)

God is my shield. God Most High….not a little angel. God Most High!

10My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
11God is a righteous judge, a God who displays his wrath every day.
12If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow.
13He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.

The unrelenting shield. Wow! May I always walk in alignment with this shield…this word of God!

God Never Lies

God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.
Hebrews 6:18 (NIV)

Verse 16 then 17…16People swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. 17Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.

And then afterwards in 19 to 20 …19We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

An anchor for the soul is the hope in the reality that God does not lie. This hope is set before us as a great encouragement!
Only God is Perfect!

Favor. Shield. Love

Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
Psalm 5:12 (NIV)

For you bless the godly, O LORD; you surround them with your shield of love.
Psalm 5:12 (NLT)

God’s favor. His love.
Shielding and surrounding the righteous and godly that He blesses.

We can all be shielded and surrounded by God’s love and favor!

May I be so covered, all the days of my life.
May I never distract or detract from what He is doing.

God Loves Us!

But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. Psalm 3:3 (NIV).

My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior– from violent people you save me. 2 Samuel 22:3 (NIV)

You know, a person who can lift your head high…. who can defend you, … even save you from violent people (few can or will do this)…. that is someone you probably want to keep close. Someone who can lift your head high… is a good friend to have.

To think that God so cares about the body,  mind and soul of every individual… wow. What a loving God!

Child of God

Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
Psalm 2:8 (NIV)
The context: God is speaking to King David.

In previous verses David says :

7I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;

today I have become your father.

8Ask me,

and I will make the nations your inheritance,

the ends of the earth your possession.

As God’s children through Christ (Galations 3:26 – For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.) we can accept these words, in the greater context of being heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).

How Much Does God Have a Hand in Your Life?

But the way of the wicked will perish.
Psalm 1:6b (NASB)

For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. (NIV)

For the LORD watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. (NLT)

for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. (ESV)

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish. (NASB)

The big difference between the righteous/godly and the wicked, is that God is watching over the way of the righteous. He knows the righteous. That’s fellowship, relationship, and interaction on a directional level.

God Appoints. Even before Birth!

These are the twelve he appointed: .… (names listed through verse 19)
Mark 3:16 (NIV)

Designated (and more at this link from

Very definite. No sort of…may this one, maybe not that one. Each of the twelve were set apart. Clearly.

They are listed (in verses 16-19) as:
Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),
James son of Zebedee and his brother
John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”),
James son of Alphaeus,
Simon the Zealot
and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Earlier today, I was thinking of ‘purpose’ and ‘calling’. How a person is appointed by God…even before they are born.

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

In Christ, we have the unique understanding that we were created with a specific purpose. That God knew who each of us was to be, before we were formed in the womb.

To think that our lives matter so much to God. May we recognize our own worth, and not waste the plans and time that He has set before us. May we diligently seek Him in all that we do. That we might fulfil the call, most diligently and completely.

God's Honor

When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.”Hebrews 6:13-14

I love this. How God can swear by His own name, as there is no-one greater than Him. And, that in making His promise to Abraham about having many descendants .. wow, in Christianity through Christ, there are so many .. and more and more. 🙂

God is Amazing!
