Love

1 Corinthians 13 (NIV)

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it;a but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

4Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

8Prophecy and speaking in unknown languagesb and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! 9Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! 10But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.

11When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.c All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.

13Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

The Righteous Will Flourish & Shine

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
Psalm 92:12 (NIV)

This reminded me of a verse that has been on my heart this week …

The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. Proverbs 4:18 (NLT)

This sort of encouragement is always the best. Purposeful. Fulfilling, and Clear.

Psalm 92
(NLT) continues to describe the godly or righteous.
12 But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
13 For they are transplanted to the LORD’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
14Even in old age they will still produce fruit;
they will remain vital and green.
15They will declare, “The LORD is just!
He is my rock!
There is no evil in him!”

Flourish. Grow. Be fruitful…at every age! Vital and green!
I am feeling this way now! I believe it for all of my future!
I am excited!

May you experience this too! Let us stay in the house of the Lord…in His presence!!!

Service

There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord.
1 Corinthians 12:5

This marks a change of season for me. The last few days were about maturing… listening to God, and being obedient. Being silent through transition yet expecting to move from the place of difficulty or pain, to that of abundance!

This verse reminds me of the fact that it is not necessarily what we do, if our hearts are in the right place. If our hearts are after God, then we will choose what He has for us. We will consistently choose Him! And we must train ourselves in this, to be obedient, and to choose well!

The PerspectiVerse comes from a chapter discussing spiritual gifts. These verses are so important in regards to these things. Check it Out!!

1Now, dear brothers and sisters,a regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

4There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

7A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise adviceb; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.c

And so on it goes…

This makes me think of all the aspects of the Holy Spirit…of God. We cannot know everything there is to know about God … but we get glimpses…here and there, through other people who are made in the image of God.(Genesis 9:6).

The key here, in my opinion, is to be aware of what the Holy Spirit is doing, and not to worry so much about HOW God is moving, but rather, to be aware of WHAT He is getting across. Each gift has a different purpose and is used as a different tool to paint the picture that He wants us to see. Let us have open ears to hear, and eyes to see (Luke 14:35) – this verse actually speaks of flavorless salt being useless, in the NLT version. Let us be full of flavor, and purpose, and understanding. Amen!

It's in His awe-inspiring hands.

16Rejoice always, 17pray continually, 18give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
19Do not quench the Spirit. 20Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22reject every kind of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 (NIV)

God wins.

Every day we have a choice, a semblance of choices. We can choose God’s will or our own. Not choosing God’s way, can be a sense of duty … another’s opinion … our own selfish desires. Whatever we choose sets the tone and trajectory for life continuing.

We can choose His way, consistently and reach our destination quickly and with ease. Or we can waver and be confused, and not really seem to ever go anywhere. Lastly, we can rebel, and run in any direction except God’s will. When we do this, sometimes God comes after us and we get aligned … and sometimes the rebellion is strong that it leads to death.

Always, always choose what is right. Choose to do what is best in His eyes. As I learned as a young child….God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. He is everywhere, knows everything and is all-powerful. It’s kind of irrational to go any way, except His way! 😉

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

Take Notice ..Be Grateful ;)

But the disciples had forgotten to bring any food. They had only one loaf of bread with them in the boat.
Mark 8:14 (NLT)

Earlier in this same chapter (also see Compassion post), Jesus fed 4000 with 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish that He blessed.

Later, Pharisees come …testing and pushing Him to do a miracle. Jesus and the disciples get in the boat to leave.

Then the disciples are hungry because they forgot bread. So they are arguing and complaining and Jesus starts to remind them (basically) of the things they should be thinking on…not arguing about bread.

Jesus says: “Why are you arguing about having no bread? Don’t you know or understand even yet? Are your hearts too hard to take it in? 18‘You have eyes—can’t you see? You have ears—can’t you hear?’a Don’t you remember anything at all? 19When I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?”

“Twelve,” they said.

20“And when I fed the 4,000 with seven loaves, how many large baskets of leftovers did you pick up?”

“Seven,” they said.

21“Don’t you understand yet?” he asked them.

How many times do we look at our lives, and complain about the bread instead of noticing … maybe the sunset …or the people around us… or any of the things that have shown God’s real and living hand amongst us. God is alive and well! How many people are living in a world where they have no understanding of that…let alone any direct fellowship with Him!

Hope and a Future

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.
Jeremiah 29:11-13(NLT)

Such encouragement.
Look for God wholeheartedly and you will find Him.

He knows the plans He has for you. Seek Him.
His plans are very good and not for disaster. You need not worry, trust Him.
His plans are to give you a future and a hope. Have faith.

Be strong and courageous...and if you need a reminder…click here. 🙂

Hope!

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Overflowing hope. Imagine. When you have it, it is amazing!!! If you don’t it can seem so elusive.
Hope.
Joy and Peace will (if you are not experiencing this…you need to check your walk with Christ 🙂 ) fill us … as we trust (have faith) in Him. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

Wow. Faith requires hope. Hope in Christ. Hope in God. Hope for things that we cannot see … and it is the confidence and assurance about those things we hope for.

Hope is a feeling maybe like rising up in a hot air balloon, rising up over all the things of this world, all the things going on below. And looking out over them towards the horizon…the horizon of things promised or hoped for. The dreams that we hide in our hearts…or the goals and plans we strive towards. When we are in this place, of hope, the worries of this world fade and drift by, making space in our view (or perspective) for the things we desire to come towards us. Maybe it’s a time with our grandchildren, maybe it’s a business accomplishment .. usually it is many things.

Let us HOPE More!

We can rise above the things in this world…think on higher things (Colossians 3:2) and move forward!

God bless!

Did You Need The Reminder: Be Strong And Courageous!

“Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side!
2 Chronicles 32:7 (NLT)

Wow. Yesterday I wrote on this same concept, except it was taken from Joshua 1:9 (See Blog Post: Be Strong and Courageous!)

This time, the verse is as an encouragement that God who is on our side, is far greater than the enemy’s army that we are seeing coming towards us!

An encouragement not to feel dismayed, or fearful. But rather a reminder of whose we are, and on whose side we are. God reigns! Have no fear! The battle is already won! Take your God’s side, and be strong and courageous! 🙂 You are on the winning side!!

Thank you, God, for Your endless mercies. For Your peace that guides us and covers us. Thank you that You never leave us nor forsake us. Thank you. We give glory to Your name!
